THE CITY The city is a set of many things: memories, desires, signs of a language, cities are places of exchange. but these are not only trade in goods, are exchanging words, desires, memories. (Italo Calvino)

writers have frequently represented the city as places for setting of many stories: the background of the events often became the subject of the narrative, almost a real character.

We will start by a brief text by contemporary authors, but also from readers to develop language skills and cultural knowledge that will lead us to some Italian cities with all their wonders and contradictions.

explore the city not only through literary texts but also through music, images and film clips. (the latter only if you have a laptop)

for greater involvement of the participants would be desirable that they can pursue the following activities prior to the workshop:
Bring
material on the Italian city that has fascinated you most or that you'd like to see more of each other. Tell us briefly about your experience or your desires. GENERAL OBJECTIVES

What Do The Shag Bands Mean

free thought. Democratic Party

I would like to express my sadness that is taking the turn, with each passing day, our society. I have been accustomed over the years of my human, to consider the freedom of thought as one of the greatest wealth of a complete democracy. A thought which naturally will enrich and change in comparison with other liberal views. In this perspective, the bearer of other points of view will become a teacher of life and not an enemy. No longer! Any opinion is able to bring new recruits shouted and trumpeted as truth. In all areas! And no matter if it is neither documented or documentation, if it belongs to the category of urban legends, or is simply a convenient lie, made to tickle a false sense of pride for the listener. It has the semblance of truth! Truth without a shadow of possible doubt! And anyone who does not agree, or even just try to disprove it, perhaps through calm reasoning is attacked (fortunately, almost always, still, just words). It is even considered, or the poor wretch, wretch, a provocateur and an enemy to fight and be killed. Well, excuse me Mr. Director, but I can not in this society to integrate more! It 'a society in fear, afraid of a being that can be lost at any time. Afraid of any hint of a different development, closed in itself, suspicious of everything new. And he does not realize that salvation is not obtained by the closure, but the expression and the search for truth to be achieved not through the cries of those who scream louder, but with a continuous personal research, influenced only by comparison with full the others thought. In which this can be accepted or not, but always with the respect due to others' experiences and intellectual elaborations. Besides, as Bertrand Russell mentions in his book "Why Men Fight" (1917) "Men fight because they are more afraid of free thought that the ruin or death. The thought is fast, is free, is the light of the world ... "
Or the" Gospel of John "through the" Saving Truth, "a truth, however, that for the Apostle becomes a continuous research on themselves, on their own humanity , and his human essence.
